A common pattern of interrupted sleep is often caused by a Charlie horse or some other ache that is so familiar to pregnant women. When your sleep is interrupted that makes you cranky and moody. Some believe that your unborn child can feel all of that grumpy energy. A pregnancy pillow can help you get much needed uninterrupted sleep because it tilts the body in such a way that the inevitable aches and pains caused by pregnancy weight gain fade away. You rise in the morning well rested and feeling great.
Types of Pregnancy Pillows
There are several types and there is one for every budget. The price for the most basic pillow starts at around $10 and can go as high as $75 for a more full bodied pregnancy pillow.
- Full body pillow -- just as the name implies, this tall pillow stretches from your chin down to your knees. It comes in alternative down fibers that are also hypo allergic. These body pregnancy pillows are not easy to wash so getting a body pillow case is a good idea. That way you just take it off, toss it in the wash and replace with another one.
- Grow to Sleep pillow -- This pregnancy pillow provides support for your head, body and knees. It is shaped like a weird "U" but can be positioned to fit your body in all sorts of ways. It is the ideal side sleeper pillow and it can also double as a nursing pillow because it can wrap around you from the back while your baby rests peacefully while nursing.
- The Body Double pregnancy pillow is much like the body pillow with an interesting twist. It looks like two pillows connected by the same piece of material that the pillow is made from. The difference is, there is a pillow for your head and the other is to rest your legs. You can twist this pillow to fit the type of sleeper that you are, whether you are a back or side sleeper, you will find it to be comfortable.
Maternity pillows can be used while you are pregnant and even well beyond your pregnancy. So don't toss your pregnancy pillow to the side once you deliver. You can continue to enjoy a good night's rest well after your pregnancy when you continue to use your pregnancy pillow. Oh and these pillows aren't only for women. If your hubby can get passed the name, he too can experience the same benefits with his own side sleeper pillow.
